Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee (Sewer Plant)

This position works under immediate supervision, performing routine tasks in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, lift stations and related facilities.  Duties include regular inspections of wastewater treatment plant, facilities, and lift stations to ascertain that they are in proper operating condition.  Other duties include collection samples for laboratory tests, preparing and collecting data to be submitted to state and federal authorities; assisting in minor repairs to equipment; and reading meters, gauges, dials and keeping logs of such readings.

Some knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and operating practices preferred.  Ability to learn to perform basic laboratory tests and acquire working knowledge of federal, state and local laws relating to wastewater.  Graduation from standard high school with courses in chemistry, biology, math.  Requires light to moderate physical activity and exposure to varied weather conditions.  Must possess valid NC driver’s license.  Must be able to obtain Grade “I” Wastewater Operator’s Certificate within 18 mos. of appointment.
