General Maint. Wkr I – Street Dept.  

($28,292.99 yr. – Grade 4/Step 1)

This position performs work as a member of a street maintenance crew, cleaning ditches, gutters, culverts and other drainage structures; performs a variety of heavy manual tasks in the maintenance and repair of sidewalks, streets, driveways and gutters; breaks pavement, pours, shovels, tamps, and smoothes asphalt, assists in the loading and unloading of stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, chemicals, and related materials and supplies; and performs other duties as required and assists other public works units as needed. Possession of a valid NC driver’s license and ability to perform heavy manual labor in varied weather conditions required.  Work may require the use of a utility truck, chain saw, pipe tapping machine, pumps, jack hammer and various hand tools.  This position reports to the Street Supervisor.
