General Maintenance Worker I

This position works under general supervision of the Building & Grounds Superintendent performing a variety of basic manual labor tasks related to the City’s grounds upkeep and roadside appearance.  Work involves mowing grass, trimming shrubbery, planting flower beds and general upkeep of the grounds. Individual will be required to weekly walk an alternate designated route of the City streets picking of debris.  May assist in the cleanup and maintenance of departmental hand tools and motorized equipment and assist other public works units as needed.    May drive a city vehicle, operate manual and motorized hands tools associated with the specific assigned area of responsibility.  Requires ability to perform manual labor in varied weather conditions for extended periods of time; high school diploma or equivalent; possession of a valid NC driver’s license. EOE Handicap Compliant, Pre-employment physical & drug test required.
